Fogo--Cleverley Likes. If you're not eating meat for Lent, hang on, you've only got one more week to go. Fogo de Chao, known for their all-you-can-eat-meat service, can still be a viable dining option for you. You and vegetarians can find wholesome meatless meals at Fogo de Chao, even though the main stay of Fogo's menu is 15 different cuts of meat including beef, lamb, pork and chicken. And if you're not eating meat for Lent, Fogo would be a great first stop after Easter. I am not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy meatless meals and surprisingly, I can get a great one at Fogo de Chao, Houston's only authentic Southern Brazilian steakhouse. They have a salad bar that offers over 30 items; gourmet salads, delectably fresh produce and vegetables galore, smoked salmon and freshly baked breads. Then the gaucho-chefs bring delicious side dishes to the table, of rice and beans, amazing little warm cheese bread puffs (Barbara Bush liked them so much she asked for the recipe), seasoned mashed potatoes, crispy hot polenta and sweet fried bananas. All of this is replenished throughout the meal. A vegetarian meal is $19.00 per person. Carnivore meals are more expensive. Fogo de Chao was Nation's Restaurant News' 2003 Hot Concepts award winner, Wine Spectator's award recipient in 2002 & 2003 and was voted the best new restaurant by readers of the Houston Business Journal in 2001. It's a small chain with four restaurants in Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta and Houston and four locations in Brazil. A Fogo will be opening in Beverly Hills in the near future. Fogo is open for lunch and dinner. Complimentary valet parking is provided (Yea! Hate it when restaurants take your money inside AND outside).
