A salute to the best of Buckhead! What does it take to be the best? The 2003 winners of the Best of Buckhead Award have the answer. On January 8, at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Buckhead Business Association recognized five businesses for their excellence in combining customer service, marketing savvy and community involvement for the year 2003. One Overall Winner and four Runners-up, all of whom have been in business for more than one year and less than five years, are the 2003 winners. Fogo de Chao, runner-up. Niche: This is a one-of-a-kind restaurant based on the Southern Brazilian gaucho way of preparing meat. The restaurant features a fixed-price continuous tableside service where the guests can choose any or all of the 15 finest selections of beef, lamb, pork and chicken. They also offer a sumptuous buffet of salads, fresh cut vegetables, and a variety of side dishes. The continuous service is excellent and chefs are trained in Brazil. Their marketing edge: They offer a unique cuisine in a unique atmosphere. Their service and food have been critically acclaimed throughout the United States. Having been in business nationally since 1979, they are relatively new to Atlanta with their Buckhead location having opened in 2001. They offer a one-price set menu with additional side items available. Community Involvement: Participated in Dining Out for Life, an international event that benefits Project Open Hand whose mission is to provide freshly prepared meals for people with symptomatic HIV/AIDS, homebound seniors and others with critical illnesses or disabilities. Fogo de Chao was distinguished as top contributor in this annual event.
